Foster Design Draws Mixed Reactions
The ultramodern School of Management building designed by Foster and Partners for Yale University drew high praise Wednesday from school alumni and Yaleconnected architects, but some criticism from neighbors and land preservation advocates.
Norman Foster has designed a 237,000-square-foot, four-story glass-and-steel structure for Whitney Avenue, across from the Peabody Museum, that consolidates the school on one site and allows it to expand by 200 students.
Yale officials submitted the proposal as a planned development district and made a case before the City Plan Commission that it met all the necessary criteria of that zoning tool.
A staff report agreed with that assessment, but the commission will not vote on it until Dec. 16, and left Wednesday's public hearing open until Dec. 2 to allow more comments to be submitted. _________________ arkitectum.com
